I believe in the copyright laws needing to be tougher. Copyright laws are only becoming harder to enforce as time goes on and more people are sharing things on the internet. Many people believe that copyright laws are out dated and restrict peoples creativity, but that is just not true. Our creativity is our own, we can gain inspiration from another's work or learn something from someone else's research. Our work is ours and their work is theirs, and we need to respect that and give them credit for their creativity. Some people who post their work on the internet is copyrighted because people using their work is their major income and they depend on it. If they don't get their compensation they will be out a job.
It isn't fair for someone to spend a lot of hard work and time in making something, like a song, and as soon as it gets put on the internet everyone can access it. People try to go around copyright laws and when something is requested to be taken down it is often already too late. It may be taken down from one site but someone else already had access to it and can just repost it. This is one of the reasons copyright laws need to be strengthened. People should not have to worry that if they don't want everyone to be able to access, that everyone can access it. In school we use work that is copyrighted as creative commons and fair use. We do credit the person who made the work in our citations. Works that are copyrighted as creative commons or fair use are okay to use for certain educational purposes, such as school. People have their own preferences on what they want other people to be able to use. If it is labeled as creative commons or fair use then that is their choice to let more people be able to use it. Last Stop on Market Street:
This book was like a sliding glass door for me. I felt like I could walk right in and join the conversation between this Grandmother and her grandson CJ. CJ is looking at what others have and isn't looking at what he already has. This book helped me as a person remember to take a chance and look at the world around me. We should look at the beauty in all that I have instead of just wanting what other people have. Crown an Ode to the Fresh Cut: This book was like a mirror for me. It may have been different circumstances, but I have always not had the best self esteem. Just something as small as a new hair cut can make you feel very confident and like a new person. Like you can take on anything the world will throw at you. This book helped me realize that I am not the only person that may feel this way. I had trouble with being shy, but if I was feeling confident I would gain the courage to go and talk to some people and make friends. These small things happen all the time and anyone can help cause someone to feel more confident with their actions. Firebird: this book was like a window into the life of someone who was very shy and didn't know how to speak up and express herself. I was looking into the past of this chi!d and watched as she found her passion and used it to express her emotions and voice without needing to use her voice. This book helped me as a person realize that there is more than one way to say something. You don't always have to use words. I like to try and use my art to convey my ideas because I really hate trying to stand up in front of a group of people an have to just talk to them. Barnes, Derrick D., and Gordon C. James. The Hate U Give by: Angie Thomas I do not support the banning or restricting of books. I understand that some books may reference or seem to support something that many consider inappropriate. That is no reason to ban people from reading it, books are meant to share a story and authors use these stories to convey there ideas. Banning books is like telling someone that they are not allowed to learn something because someone else said no. You may not want people reading those books at a certain age, but that doesn’t mean no one should be allowed to read it. The book I chose is “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas and I think it should not have been banned. The Hate U Give was banned because it was seen as “Anti-Cop”, used profanity and had references to drug use and sex. The School Library Journal stated |
