Last Stop on Market Street:
This book was like a sliding glass door for me. I felt like I could walk right in and join the conversation between this Grandmother and her grandson CJ. CJ is looking at what others have and isn't looking at what he already has. This book helped me as a person remember to take a chance and look at the world around me. We should look at the beauty in all that I have instead of just wanting what other people have. Crown an Ode to the Fresh Cut: This book was like a mirror for me. It may have been different circumstances, but I have always not had the best self esteem. Just something as small as a new hair cut can make you feel very confident and like a new person. Like you can take on anything the world will throw at you. This book helped me realize that I am not the only person that may feel this way. I had trouble with being shy, but if I was feeling confident I would gain the courage to go and talk to some people and make friends. These small things happen all the time and anyone can help cause someone to feel more confident with their actions. Firebird: this book was like a window into the life of someone who was very shy and didn't know how to speak up and express herself. I was looking into the past of this chi!d and watched as she found her passion and used it to express her emotions and voice without needing to use her voice. This book helped me as a person realize that there is more than one way to say something. You don't always have to use words. I like to try and use my art to convey my ideas because I really hate trying to stand up in front of a group of people an have to just talk to them. Barnes, Derrick D., and Gordon C. James.
